Former Jhenaidah-3 lawmaker Nobi Newaz shown arrested in fresh murder case

DHAKA, June 29, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today showed former lawmaker of Jhenaidah-3 constituency and Awami League leader Nobi Newaz arrested in a case lodged over the murder of garment worker Rubel in capital’s Adabor area during July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order as police produced the former lawmaker before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case.

According to the case documents, anti-discrimination student movement activists brought out a rally at around 11 am on August 5, 2024, in Adabor Ring Road area. At one stage, police and Awami League goons opened fire on the rally, killing Rubel on the spot.

Rubel’s father Rafikul Islam filed the case on August 22, 2024, with the Adabor Police Station.
