DHAKA, June 29, 2026 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today ordered the seizure of the income tax files of former shipping minister Shahjahan Khan and his wife, Syeda Rokeya Begum, in connection with an investigation into alleged corruption.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order, allowing two separate pleas filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The petition filed against Shahjahan Khan said the accused, 73, abused his authority as a public servant and dishonestly acquired and possessed movable and immovable assets worth Taka 11.36 crore beyond his known sources of income.

He is also accused of conducting suspicious transactions amounting to Taka 86.69 crore through nine bank accounts, leading to a case under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act on charges related to money laundering. The petition added that Shahjahan Khan is an income taxpayer.

“For the sake of proper investigation, his income tax records should be seized immediately," the plea added.

In the plea against Rokeya Begum, the ACC said she amassed illegal wealth worth Taka 4.47 crore and kept the assets under her possession. A case has also been filed in this connection.

“For the sake of proper investigation of the allegations brought against her, Syeda Rokeya Begum's income tax records should be seized,” the ACC plea said.
