DHAKA, July 02, 2026 (BSS) - A 22-member Bangladeshi youth delegation has concluded a 10-day visit to China aimed at strengthening people-to-people relations and expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and China through dialogue, knowledge exchange and institutional engagement.
The visit, held from June 21 to 30 under the "Bangladesh Youth Leaders Delegation to Visit China 2026" programme at the invitation of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS).
The delegation brought together academics, researchers, journalists, law enforcement officials and university students from Bangladesh for exchanges with Chinese policymakers, scholars, industry leaders and government institutions.
The delegation was led by Aga Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Lecturer at the Chinese Language and Culture Department of the Institute of Modern Languages, University of Dhaka.
Other members included Shawon Shyla, Additional Superintendent of Police; Md. Fazlul Karim, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (2IC); Foqoruddin Al Kabir, Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD); Md. Kamal Uddin, Assistant Professor at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB); Jakiya Ahmad Zhuma, Lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka; Md. Minhazul Abdin, Lecturer at Noakhali Science and Technology University; Md. Takrim Hossain, Research Associate at CPD; Muhammad Mazedul Haque, Research Officer at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS); Nusrat Tajkia, Lecturer at ULAB; Zarif Faiaz, Tech and Startup Editor of the Daily Star; Md. Mokarram Hossain, Lecturer at Noakhali Science and Technology University; Md. Lutfor Kabir, Assistant News Editor of China Media Group (CMG); Osman Gani Rashel, Staff Reporter at Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS); Mostafa-E-Hasnat Mahamud Chy, Journalist at the Daily Inqilab; Md. Shanaullah Sakib, Journalist at Prothom Alo; Jonaed Khan, Research Analyst at the Osmani Centre for Peace and Security Studies; Chowdhury Sadia Jahan Fariha, Assistant Clinical Psychologist; Al Khalid Bin Walid Dipu and Md. Zarif Rahman, students of the Institute of Modern Languages, University of Dhaka; Nayem Sarkar, a Statistics student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST); and Rahat Zaman, a Software Engineering student at SUST.
During the visit, the delegation travelled to Kunming, Shanghai and Beijing, where members participated in exchanges with government agencies, universities, research institutes and leading Chinese enterprises.
The programme highlighted China's advances in technological innovation, smart urban development, renewable energy, infrastructure, higher education and industrial modernization, while also creating opportunities for dialogue and future collaboration between the two countries.
Executive Deputy Director of the Center for China Studies (SIIS-DU), Dr. Li Hongmei, said the visit was designed to strengthen people-to-people ties between China and Bangladesh, with a particular focus on interaction and engagement between the youth of both countries, as well as to enhance Bangladesh's understanding of China's diplomacy, scientific and technological development, social governance, environmental protection, culture, and other related areas.
"The most significant outcome of the programme has been the transformation in our delegates' understanding and perception of China," she said. "Through direct interactions, institutional visits, and cultural exchanges, participants gained a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of China's development achievements and modernization journey."
Dr. Li noted that the delegates' reflections during the closing ceremony demonstrated the lasting impact of the visit, underscoring its success in promoting mutual understanding, friendship, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
Looking ahead, she said the Center for China Studies plans to organize a Bangladesh Youth Leaders Delegation to China every year.
