French envoy backs Airbus cooperation to strengthen Biman fleet

DHAKA, July 9, 2026 (BSS) - French Ambassador Jean-Marc Sere-Charlet has said that enhanced cooperation with Airbus would strengthen Biman Bangladesh Airlines' fleet capacity and contribute to the long-term development of Bangladesh's aviation sector.

The ambassador made the remarks during a courtesy call on Biman Bangladesh Airlines Chairman Rumee A. Hossain on Wednesday to discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in civil aviation, said a French embassy's press release here today.  

During the meeting, the envoy underscored the commitment of European aircraft manufacturer Airbus to supporting the continued growth of Bangladesh's aviation industry.

The ambassador said stronger cooperation with Airbus would enhance Biman Bangladesh Airlines' fleet capacity, contribute to the development of Bangladesh's broader aviation ecosystem and reflect the country's commitment to building a long-term partnership with the European Union.

Recalling the longstanding and friendly relations between Bangladesh and France, he explored ways to deepen collaboration in the aviation sector and reaffirmed France's commitment to supporting the modernisation of Bangladesh's civil aviation industry.

Highlighting the successful cooperation between French technology company Thales and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), the ambassador said France remains committed to supporting the country's aviation infrastructure and technological advancement.

He further stressed the importance of ensuring a fair and level playing field to encourage greater participation by European companies in Bangladesh's aviation sector.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation in civil aviation and explored opportunities for expanding collaboration between Bangladesh and France in the sector.
