DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of former speaker, BNP national standing committee member, eminent lawyer and veteran politician Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar.

In a condolence message issued today, the Home Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

He described Barrister Sircar as a distinguished lawyer, an accomplished parliamentarian and an outstanding political leader who remained steadfast throughout his life in promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

Ahmed said Sircar's long political career stood as a remarkable example of integrity, principles, honesty and patriotism. 
 
He added that the nation would remember him with profound respect for his significant contributions to state governance, lawmaking, education and strengthening democratic institutions.

Sircar breathed his last at a private hospital in the capital around 4:20 am today, a press release from the Supreme Court said. 

Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar was 94.
