Murder at Mitford will be tried under Speedy Trial Tribunal: Asif Nazrul

DHAKA, July 12, 2025 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today assured of giving exemplary punishment of the killers through holding a speedy trial in the brutal murder of a scrap metal trader in the capital's Mitford area on July 9. 
 
"The government is committed to a speedy trial of the brutal murder at Mitford. --- This brutal murder will be tried quickly and exemplary punishment will be given," he said in a post on his verified Facebook page.  

He said five people involved in this incident have already been arrested, and the police have started the investigation with the utmost importance.

"The case against those responsible will be transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal. Arrangements will be made to try the case as soon as possible under Section 10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002," he said.

Earlier on July 9 last, a scrap metal trader Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, 39, was hacked, beaten, and stoned to death near a gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital.
