DHAKA, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said journalists must remain uncompromising in case of professionalism.

“Under no circumstances they should engage in partisan allegiance,” she said while addressing as the chief guest the “Mass Media Festival 2026” organized by the July Revolutionary Journalists at Jatiya Press Club here.

Rizwana said it is disappointing that even after 54 years of independence the country has not been able to establish a Media Commission or enact a Broadcasting Ordinance.

“We are trying to issue these two ordinances based on the opinions of the government, journalists, and all relevant stakeholders. If this is not possible due to time constraints, at least we aim to prepare the final drafts,” she said.

The adviser said prepared drafts have been uploaded to the websites of the two ministries for public opinion.

Rizwana urged the journalists to refrain from using derogative language and elevate themselves to a respectable position through upholding professional dignity.

While acknowledging that differences of opinion may exist among journalists, she emphasized that the core objective of journalism must be objectivity.

Samsi Ara Zaman, mother of martyred journalist Tahir Zaman Priyo, said that journalists must be ensured a dignified livelihood and adequate facilities so that fascism cannot exploit them.

Bangladesh Federal Journalists Union (BFUJ) President Obaidur Rahman Shahin, Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan, Dhaka Journalists Union (DUJ) President Shahidul Islam, Chattogram Press Club General Secretary Golam Mowla Murad, July Revolutionary Journalist Alliance President and special correspondent of Jamuna TV Abdullah Tuhin, joint chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP) Mahbub Alam and “Fasibadmukto Somaj Chai” convener Zainal Abedin Shishir also spoke on the occasion.

During the event, a hotline number 9644111444 was inaugurated to provide support to journalists while performing their duties during the upcoming referendum and elections.
