DHAKA, Jan 11, 2025 (BSS)- Four people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a speedboat and trawler in the River Meghna in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj district.

The deceased were identified as Wadud Bepary, 36, son of Mohammad Ali of Jamalpur village of Gazaria upazila, Babul Sarker, 48, son of Bacchu Sarker of Ramzanbeg village, Sakib, 26, of Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur, and Nayeem, 24, the operator of the speedboat, police said.

According to police and locals, the accident occurred when a trawler, en route to Guagachia in Gajaria upazila from an event in Matlab Uttar, collided with the speedboat coming from opposite direction. Both vessels were carrying a total of 10 to 11 people.

Dense fog at that time caused the speedboat to lose its control, leading to the crash, police said.
