DHAKA, Feb 7, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida  Akhter has said the government will import livestock from abroad for breeding, not for meat consumption.

“Although various quarters usually put a request for meat import aiming to make the meat price cheaper, but the government will not go on that way. Livestock will be imported for developing our indigenous breed,” she said.

The advisor said this while addressing a small dairy farmers’ rally organized by Sammilito Khamari Parishad at Haripur Govt. Primary School premises under Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidha district yesterday, a press release of the ministry today said.

The advisor said, we produce huge quantities of daily milk, but there is no milk treasure in the country. So, we will make milk treasure through establishing a cattle hub.”

A system will be developed so that people can buy fresh milk from the dairy farmers, she said assuring the district and upazila dairy farmers to resolve their problems.

Farida asked the deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers to lease out the water bodies to real fishermen. Non-professionals should never allow taking lease of the water bodies for pisciculture.

Three ministries are working to resolve the problems regarding the leasing out the water bodies, she said hoping that the problem will be solved quickly.

Attorney General  M Asaduzzaman, Pakistani High Commissioner  to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maroof , Deputy Commissioner of Jenaidah Mohammad Abdul Awal also spoke on the occasion while president of Smmilito Khamari Parishad Tariqul Islam was in the chair.
