BNP Standing Committee holds emergency meeting

DHAKA, Feb 7, 2025 (BSS) - In view of the sudden situation in the country, the highest policy-making forum of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the 'National Standing Committee', held an emergency meeting.

The meeting, held at the party chairperson's political office in Gulshan, was virtually presided over by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from London.

The meeting began at 11:30am on Friday and lasted for one and a half hours.

Party sources said that the party's Acting Chairman called the meeting of the standing committee on an urgent basis in the wake of the alarming situation arising from the demolition of houses, establishments and nameplates of Awami League leaders in various parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tarique Rahman held the meeting to decide the course of action of the party.

BNP standing committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sirkar, Mirza Abbas (online), Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (online), Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury (online), Salauddin Ahmed, Begum Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku (online), Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain participated in the meeting.

The Acting Chairman of BNP holds meetings with members of the standing committee every Monday at 12:30pm London time (6:30pm Bangladesh time).
