DHAKA, Feb 12, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today said that there is no alternative to elections in restoring democracy.

"Democracy may fail without a government, formed with people’s mandate.  If someone fails to accept a government with people’s mandate, it will also be failure of his or her to accept democracy. That is why we have talked about elections. We think that there is no alternative to polls for restoration of  democracy.’

The BNP leader said these while speaking at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Youth Forum at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) as the chief guest.

He added , "We said at the beginning that the government would complete the necessary reforms and hold parliamentary elections within a reasonable time."

Noting that BNP still supports this government, he said the party criticizes this government so as to it remains on the right track.

"We do not want to let this government fail," he added.

Youth Forum Advisor M Nazmul Hasan presided over the discussion while Forum President Saidur Rahman moderated it.

BNP Assistant Information Affairs Secretary and Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Secretary General Quader Gani Chowdhury, BNP Executive Committee Member Mainul Islam, Muktijoddha Dal Organizing Secretary Miah Mohammad Anwar, Matsyajibi Dal leader Ismail Hossain Siraji and Jatiyatabadi Chalok Dal President Jashim Uddin Kabir   also spoke on the occasion.
