Court attaches flats, plots, houses, shops of ex-MP Ranjit

DHAKA, March 20, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to attach four flats, two houses, 60 shops and 79.62 bigha plots and freeze 137 bank accounts of former member of parliament (MP) from Jashore-4 constituency Ranjir Kumar Roy, his wife Niyoti rani Roy, sons Rajib Kumar Roy and Sajib Kumar Roy and other family members over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Of the properties to be attached, two flats, 1356 SQF each, are situated in Jashore Sadar, two others, 1224 SQF each, situated beside Jashore New Market, 60 shops and the plots are in Abhaynagar upazilla. The worth of the properties as per the deeds is Taka 17 crore.

Of the accounts, which are to be frozen, 25 are in the name of Ranjit, 21 are in name of Niyoti, 44 in Rajib's name, 20 in Rajib's wife Rishita Saha's name, 12 in Sajib's name, and others in the name of Sajib's wife Anindita Malakar's name.

The ACC in its plea said it has appointed an officer to probe allegations amassing illegal wealth and money laundering against the accused. For the sake of proper investigation, their movable and immovable properties should be frozen, the plea added.
