DHAKA, April 7, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court here today showed arrested Jahangir Kabir, former general secretary of the Barguna district Awami League and Sheikh Ali Ahsan Badal, former president of the Dhaka South unit of Jubo League in a case filed over the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim in 2023.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the case. Following the hearing, the court sent them back to jail.
 
According to the case documents, the incident took place on October 28, 2023, when BNP called a grand rally in the capital. On the same day, Awami League also held a counter-rally aiming to foil the BNP's program. 

Later, clashes broke out in Naya Paltan, where Awami League activists, allegedly with the support of the police, attacked the BNP's rally, killing Jubo Dal leader Shamim on the spot.

The case was filed with capital's Paltan Police Station on September 24, 2024.
