Barrister Tureen on 4-day remand in murder attempt case

DHAKA, April 8, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed former prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Barrister Tureen Afroz on a four-day remand in a case lodged over attempt to murder one Abdul Jabbar in the Uttara area during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain passed the order as police produced Tureen before the court and pleaded to place her on a 10-day remand in the case.

Police arrested Barrister Tureen Afroz from her Uttara Sector-11 house on the night of April 7.

According to the case documents, Abdul Jabbar joined an anti-discrimination student movement rally in Uttara West Police Station area on August 5 last year. He got shot and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). 

Later, Jabbar filed the case on March 27, 2025 against 50 including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
