NARAYANGANJ, April 19, 2025 (BSS) - A student was killed as a boat capsized while crossing the Shitalakshya river with his friends in Rupganj yesterday.
Deceased Jobayer Hossen was a tenth-grade student of Shaheed Smrity High School and son of Tapon Hossen of Charitaluk area under Volabo union of Rupganj upazila.
His body was recovered from Volabo area of the upazila this morning.
Jobayer and his friends were crossing the river in a small boat around 6:30pm on Friday. The boat capsized when it reached in the middle of the river, said Rupganj Police Station officer-in-charge Liakat Ali.
He said Jobayer drowned and went missing while his friends Sayem, Siam, and Rabbi managed to swim to the shore.
