DHAKA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) – The Detective Branch (DB) of police on Monday arrested nine Awami League (AL) men, including former member of parliament (MP) from Manikganj-2 constituency Momtaz Begum from different parts of the capital.
Of the arrestees, Momtaz who was arrested from Dhanmondi area around 11:45pm on Monday was sent on a four-day police remand today in hawker Sagor murder case filed with Mirpur Police Station on July 19 last.
The eight other detainees are -Ramna Jubo Mohila League President Helen Akhter (55), AL central international affairs sub-committee member Sumagan Karim (40), Dhaka City North Chhatra League vice president Mahmudul Hasan Anjan (27), former executive member of Bangladesh Chhatra League and former sports secretary of Chittagong City Chhatra League Md. Sajjad (41), Ward No. 13 Awami Jubo League Joint General Secretary Md. Babul (44), Demra Thana Chhatra League former president and Bawani Unit Awami League General Secretary Mozammel Haque Akash (30), Dhaka North City AL Industry and Commerce Affairs Secretary Saiful Islam Shaheen (40) and Ananda Bazar unit AL Secretary Md. Mintu.
Separate teams of the DB arrested the eight in several raids at Moghbazar, Gulshan-2, Jatrabari, Tejgaon, Kawla, Demra, Mirpur and Bangshal areas of the capital on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of DB Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed.
The detainees were involved in organizing and destabilizing the country by destroying the law and order and creating panic in the public mind by holding sudden processions in different parts of the capital.
