Amir Khasru demands polls immediately

DHAKA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today demanded national elections immediately, saying the democratic trend can be restored only through polls

He was addressing a memorial meeting marking 2nd death anniversary of Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and Ramon Magsaysay Award winning eminent physician Zafrullah Chowdhury. Bhashani Janshakti Party and Bhashani Anusari Parishad jointly organized event.

Paying tributes to Zafrullah, Khasru said Zafrullah did basic work in the country's health sector.

“Zafarullah Chowdhury’s contribution to create the base of ousting autocratic Hasina is undeniable,” he added.

Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Rastra Sangskar Andolon chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum, Biplobi Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque and Nationalist Freedom Fighters Party president Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat spoke, among others.

Zafrullah Chowdhury's wife and women's leader Shirin Haque was present at the event. Md. Habibullah Talukder, project coordinator of Gonoshasthaya Community-Based Cancer Hospital and head of the Cancer Prevention Department, spoke on behalf of Gonoshasthaya Kendra.

Bhashani Janshakti Party chairman Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Babul chaired the event moderated by Gonoshasthaya Mancha leader Abu Yusuf Selim.
