DHAKA, May 13, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed today called upon Prof Muhammad Yunus led interim government to play a strong role in settling water sharing issues with neighboring India.

“Bangladesh and India have 54 common rivers. Countless dams have been built on each of them. As a result, the navigability of our water has decreased. Without water, the plight of the farmers of our   riverine country is needless to say. Bangladesh is a victim of water aggression like other aggressions,” he said.

He was addressing a roundtable organized by International Farakka Committee at Jatiya Press Club on the occasion of Maulana Bhashani’s historic Farakka Long March of 1976 '. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed also spoke at the meeting.

Hafizuddin claimed that the previous Awami League government prioritized the interests of the neighbors without thinking about the interests of Bangladesh.
