DU Forms Probe body to Investigate Shahriar's death

DHAKA, May 14, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka University (DU) has formed a seven-member probe committee to investigate the death of Shahriar Alam Shammo, a DU student and Chhatra Dal leader, who was stabbed to death late on May 13. 

Prof Dr Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, has been appointed as the head of the committee, which has been asked to submit its findings within the next three working days, a DU press release said.

Other members of the committee are: Prof Dr Mohammad Ikramul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof Dr Taiyebur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Dr Md Sirajul Islam, Provost of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall and Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Sarkar of the Department of Persian Language and Literature.

Assistant Proctor Sharmin Kabir has been made the committee's member-secretary, while the Deputy Registrar (Investigation) has been assigned to provide secretarial support, the release further reads. 

The DU authorities called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
