KHULNA, July 11, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party Convener (NCP) Nahid Islam here this evening has demanded the formulation of a new constitution, abolishing the "Mujibism" one.

He said that the current constitution, shaped by Mujibism, could not prevent midnight voting and called for declaration of July Charter before August 5.

He was addressing a street rally held at Shibbari intersection in the city, as part of the party's nationwide July March campaign.

Emphasizing the rising of public consciousness, Nahid said, "The leaders of the uprising are still on the streets. Please support us. You will not be disappointed".

Referring to the context of the July Mass Uprising, Nahid said, "The fascist Hasina government had shot a thousands of people and injured more than 10,000. Some of my brothers had lost their eye sights, some lost their legs and other parts of their bodies".

Highlighting the BBC report that Hasina herself gave the order for the shootings, he said ex-IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun confessed all crimes of Hasina and agreed as the prime witness of this mass killing.

He also announced that the NCP will fix candidates in all six constituencies for the upcoming elections.

Other speakers also expressed their optimism that a new Bangladesh could be built by electing NCP candidates in the upcoming general elections.

NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain, NCP Central leaders Nasir Patwari, Tasnim Zara, Hasanat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam and Nusrat Tabassum, among others, also spoke.

In their speeches, they also called for abolishing the Mujibism constitution, claiming it failed to ensure electoral integrity, and advocated for announcing the July declaration before August 5.

They also highlighted that the people of Khulna have historically stood against extortionists and corrupt individuals and will continue to do so in the future.

The street rally eventually turned into a full-scale gathering. Later, the NCP leaders proceeded to the People's Circle in the industrial area of Khalishpur, where another rally will be held tonight.

The central NCP leaders also met the parents of Shaheed Sakib Raihan.
