DHAKA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Forum (BJAF), a platform of pro-BNP lawyers, today said no member of their organisation will defend the accused in the case lodged over the barbaric killing of scrap metal trader Lal Chand Md Sohag.

"The culprits behind the monstrous killing should be identified and brought to justice. Our members will not stand for them before the court and we are urging all the other learned lawyers for not to defend them," said BJAF Dhaka Bar Association unit convener Md Khorshed Alam at a press briefing held here today.

Conducted by BJAF Dhaka Bar Unit member secretary Nihar Hossain Faruk, the briefing was attended, among others, by Dhaka Bar Association President Md Khorshed Miah Alam, its general secretary Syed Nazrul Islam and public prosecutor Iqbal Hossain.

"Incidents like Sohag murder, Jubodal leader killing in Khulna, hacking of an Imam in Chandpur have deeply saddened and disturbed us. These are absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances. Among the most talked-about incidents is the murder of Sohag at Mitford Hospital, which, despite being clearly visible in the CCTV footage, has- for some unknown reason- had its entire blame unjustly placed on BNP. Furthermore, indecent slogans are being chanted against the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman," Md Khorshed Alam said.

The lawyer leader also blamed agents of fascist forces for accusing the BNP and Tarique Rahman of heinous allegations like extortion-without any
investigation or inquiry whatsoever-by invoking invisible influences.

Lal Chand Mohammad Sohag, 39, was hacked, beaten and stoned to death on July 9 last near a gate of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital.

Next day of the incident, his sister Monjuara Begum filed the case.
