DHAKA, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - Leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal today paid tribute at the grave of Wasim Akram, the first martyr of the Chattogram during July Uprising, in Pekua upazila of Cox's Bazar, marking his first death anniversary.

A Chhatra Dal delegation, led by its central General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, visited Wasim's grave to offer prayers and place floral wreaths in his honor.

They also met and expressed solidarity with Wasim's family members. "Washim's sacrifice continues to inspire our struggle," Nasir Uddin said during the visit.

Wasim Akram was killed on July 16, 2024, during a violent clash involving police, members of the banned student organization Chhatra League and protesters in Chattogram's Muradpur area around 3 pm.

He was a third-year undergraduate student in the Department of Sociology at Chattogram College and a member of the college unit's Chhatra Dal convening committee.

Wasim had been actively involved in the anti-discrimination movement since its early days and took part in every protest programme.
