DHAKA, Aug 22, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Professor AZM Zahid Hossain today demanded a quick announcement of the election roadmap.

"The interim government requested the Election Commission to hold elections by mid-February. Now we want the commission to announce the election roadmap immediately," he told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) here.

World Human Rights Organization-Bangladesh organized the discussion titled "Importance of National Parliament Elections in Ensuring Democracy and Human Rights".

Criticizing the various statements of some political parties regarding the election, Zahid Hossain said if the election is delayed, the fallen dictator will be benefited.

He said the people of Bangladesh do not understand this PR system. If the people get confused, it will really bring great danger to the country, to the sovereignty of the country, to the existence of the country, he said.

"To ensure democracy and human rights, elections are the only way. For the sake of the country, let's all go to the people together. The elected representatives of the people will decide in the future how the governance of this country will run," he added.

Organization's president Professor Abdul Latif Masum chaired the discussion which was moderated by Jahangir Alam Mintu.

Gono Forum president Advocate Subrata Chowdhury and Supreme Court lawyer Syed Mahbub Hossain also spoke among others.
