JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Aug 22, 2025 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University unit of Bangladesh Democratic Students' Council (BDSC) today announced a 23-member panel titled 'Shikkharthi Oikya Forum' to contest the upcoming Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) election.
The panel was announced at a press conference held at university's Shaheed Minar premises this afternoon by Hazrat Ali, uncle of martyr Nafisa Marwa, who was embraced martyrdom during the July Uprising last year in Savar.
BDSC JU unit convener Arifuzzaman Uzzal will contest for the position of Vice-President (VP) while its member-secretary Abu Touhid Mohammad Siam will run for the post of General Secretary (GS).
The panel also announced candidates for other posts, including Joint General Secretary (Male) Zia Uddin Ayaan, Joint General Secretary (Female) Maliha Namlah, Education and Research Secretary Farhana Binte Jigar Farina, Environment and Nature Conservation Secretary Md. Sajjad Hossain, Literature and Publication Secretary Marjiur Rahman Chowdhury, Cultural Secretary Raeid Hossain, Assistant Cultural Secretary Fatema Tuz Johora (Boishakhi), Assistant Sports Secretary (Female) Sabikun Nahar (Poly), Assistant Sports Secretary (Male) Ring Yong Murong (Rushd), Information Technology and Library Secretary Nokib Al Mahmud Ornob, Social Welfare and Human Resource Development Secretary Ahsan Labib, Assistant Social Welfare and Human Resource Development Secretary (Female) Nadia Rahman Onnesha, Assistant Social Welfare and Human Resource Development Secretary (Male) Kazi Mehrab (Turjo), Health and Food Security Secretary Nasim Al Tariq and Transport and Communication Secretary Md. Nahid Hasan (Imon).
For executive member posts, three female candidates - Prishti Khan, Tanjila Tasnim Setu, and Afia Ibnat Samiha have been nominated, along with three male candidates Sadat Ibne Islam, Twseen Ahmed and Mohammad Ali Chishty.
The panel has nominated eight female candidates in total, including six for reserved seats and one indigenous student.
However, they did not nominate any candidate for the Sports Secretary post to honor Mahmudul Hasan Kiran, a JU 48th batch student and member of the Bangladesh U-23 National Football Team. The position of Drama Secretary has also been left vacant.
While addressing the press conference, VP candidate Arifuzzaman Uzzal said that no members of other political parties had been included in their panel.
"We have sought to nominate conscious students who have consistently worked for the rights of their peers, upheld the spirit of the July Uprising and actively led various reform movements on campus since August 5," he stated.
He further added, "We have made a sincere effort to ensure maximum participation of female students. Beyond the reserved seats, women have been nominated for several other positions as well. Our panel also represents indigenous students. We firmly hope that the university administration will ensure a free, fair and transparent JUCSU election on September 11."
