COX'S BAZAR, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today called upon the party leaders and activists to take preparations for the next general election.

“Election schedule will be announced in December...So, go to the doorsteps of voters to reach them out and seek vote for the Sheaf of Paddy,” he told the biennial conference and council of Chakaria Upazila BNP in the district.

About the Proportional Representation (PR) system in election, Salahuddin said the language of democracy is that people would vote for whoever they like. “The language of PR is that they will vote for election symbol but no one knows who will become an MP,” he added.

The BNP leader said the politicians, who are demanding introduction of PR system in the national election have different motive.

Salahuddin said the people have given their blood in the last 16 years to achieve their democratic and constitutional rights. All those rights will be established through the exercise of voting rights, he said.

Salahuddin said democratic practices must continue so that no fascist like Sheikh Hasina rises.
He said Sheikh Hasina's government had buried democracy and snatched away people’s right to vote by holding “elections at night”.

Convener of Chakaria Upazila BNP Council Management Committee Convener Enamul Haque chaired the programme moderated by its Member Secretary M. Mubarak Ali.

District BNP President and former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury inaugurated the council while former MP Advocate Hasina Ahmed, BNP Chattogram Divisional Assistant Organizing Secretary Mir Helal Uddin, Chattogram South District BNP Former Convener Abu Sufian, Cox's Bazar District BNP General Secretary Adv. Shamim Ara Swapna spoke on the occasion.
