BNP leader Abdus Salam hospitalized, condition stable

DHAKA, Aug 23, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr Md Rafiqul Islam today visited veteran freedom fighter and BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Abdus Salam, who is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital.

Abdus Salam, also a former deputy mayor, has been hospitalized since August 21 with pneumonia, electrolyte imbalance, high blood pressure, gallstones and chronic kidney disease. 

He was admitted on an emergency basis after falling ill while carrying out organizational activities in the Rajshahi division.

Following the visit, Dr Rafiqul Islam said Salam's condition is currently stable but advised further medical tests for a complete assessment. 

"Detailed information about his health will be available after full examinations on Sunday," he added.

Dr Rafiqul requested prayers from the public for Salam's speedy recovery.

BNP leaders including party's religious affairs secretary Rafiqul Islam Jamal and Barishal Divisional Assistant Organizing Secretary Mahbubul Haque Nannu were also present during the hospital visit.
