ICT permits to interrogate 4 accused of Shapla Chattar killing

DHAKA, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS)- International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today allowed the investigating authority to interrogate four arrested accused of the case filed for the killings and torture on Hefajat workers during a rally at city’s Shapla Chattar on May 5 in 2013.

The ICT-1 headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder allowed the investigating authority to interrogate the accused persons one day each, asking to submit report against the accused persons including Sheikh Hasina on November 12 next in response to a petition moved by Gazi M H Tamim moved the petition on behalf of the prosecution.

The ICT following the petition permitted to interrogate former state minister for home Shamsul Haque Tuku, former military officer Ziaul Ahsan, former inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque and former deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Molla Nazrul Islam.

Maulana Azizul Haque Islamabadi, on behalf of Hefajat leaders Junaid Al Habib and Maulana Mamunul Haque filed the complaint to the chief prosecutor of the ICT in this regard.

The accused persons are- former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former general secretary of Awami League (AL) Obaidul Quader, former ministers Rashed Khan Menon and Hasan Mahmud, former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh, former lawmakers Haji Md Selim, Salman F Rahman, AKM Shamim Osman, former adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former inspectors general of police AKM Shahidul Haque and Benazir Ahmed, former military officer Ziaul Ahsan, former police officers-Harun-ur-Rashid and Biplob Kumar Sarkar, president of Ghatok Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir, its member professor Muntasir Mamun, former prosecutor of the ICT Tureen Afroz, convener of Gano Jagoron Manch Imran H Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ekattor Television Mozammel Babu, CEO of Samoy Television Ahmed Jubair, editor of ABC News Suvash Singh Ray, former press secretary to the PM Naimul Islam Khan, former chief of army Aziz Ahmed and former chief of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Manzur Ahmed.
