CHATTOGRAM, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is currently investigating the alleged sale of the centenary playground of the 147-year-old Dr. Khastagir Government Girls High School in the city.
An ACC team, led by Sayed Alam, Assistant Director of ACC Chattogram Integrated District Office-1, visited the school as part of the investigation today. Subel Ahmed, Deputy Director of the ACC's Chattogram Integrated District Office-1, confirmed the matter.
The allegation involves the sale of 15.5 kathas of land, valued at approximately Tk 100 crore, belonging to Dr Khastagir School for only Tk 3.96 crore in 2006. The suspicious transaction came to light when a land transfer application was submitted recently. It is believed that the sale was orchestrated through collusion with officials from the Chattogram District Administration, Land Office, and Sub Registry Office.
Sayed Alam, the Assistant Director leading the investigation, stated that they are looking into allegations of irregularities and corruption related to the purchase and sale of the school's playground land. The team has been verifying documents provided by the school authorities and plans to visit the Sub-Registrar's office for further investigation.
Dr. Khastagir Government Girls High School is a historic institution in Chattogram, known for producing notable figures in education, medicine, and science, including Pritilata Waddedar, a prominent leader in the anti-British movement. The school, which was recognized as the best school at the national level in 2024, holds a significant place in the city's educational landscape.
