DHAKA, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Naib-e-Ameer and former lawmaker Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher today said that about 71 percent of the people of the country want proportional representation (PR) system elections, as if the elections take place without any reform, fascism will revive.

“The present government must introduce the PR system aiming to ensure free, fair and participatory elections,” he said.

The Jamaat leader said this in a roundtable titled ‘PR System Election and Legal Base of July National Charter-2025’ at the Jatiya Press Club here. Bangladesh Adarsha Shikhak Federation organised the roundtable.

He said if the July Charter is not implemented, then the revolution will remain incomplete, adding that if the elections are held without any reform, fascism will be born again.

At present, the PR system is functioning in 91 countries across the world, said other speakers, adding that if the system is launched in Bangladesh, it will resist autocratic tendencies.
