CEO, Chairperson of Evaly get 3 years jail in fraud case

DHAKA, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted Evaly Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mohammad Rassel and Chairperson Shamima Nasrin to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a fraud and misappropriation case from a customer.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam delivered the verdict and fined them Tk 10,000 each. In default, they will have to suffer additional three months jail.

The court also issued warrants for their arrest as they were tried in absentia, court official Alamgir Hossain told the news agency.

According to the case dockets, a customer of the E-commerce institution, Abul Kalam Azad filed the case on December 7, 2023, accusing the couple of taking Tk 23 lakh from him in 2021 for selling 11 motorbikes but failed to deliver the products or refund the money.

Following the complaint, the court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate into the matter. On March 27 last year, PBI Sub-Inspector Basudev Sarkar submitted the charge sheet of the case against Rassel and Shamima.

On December 9, the court framed charges against the couple and began its trial.
The court cross-examined a total of three prosecution witnesses during the trial and pronounced the judgment today.
