CHATTOGRAM, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a petition before a Chattogram court seeking an instruction to the Ministry of Home Affairs to request Interpol to issue a 'red notice' against former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed and his wife Rukmila Zaman.

The petition was placed before the court of Acting Metropolitan Special Judge Md Abdur Rahman.

The court fixed September 21 for hearing on the application, ACC Public Prosecutor Advocate Mukarram Hossain said.

The ACC is probing a case against Saifuzzaman Chowdhury, his wife Rukmila Zaman (former chairman of UCBL) and 50 bank officials over allegations of embezzling about Tk 124 crore.

Earlier, a Chattogram court ordered the attachment and freezing of their overseas assets, including 343 houses, apartments and plots in the UK, 228 apartments in the UAE and nine in the US, as well as other properties in different countries.

On March 5, the same court ordered the freezing of 39 bank accounts belonging to the family, holding deposits of Tk 52.68 crore, along with Saifuzzaman's shares worth Tk 102 crore and 957 bighas of land.

Additionally, a travel ban was also imposed on the couple on October 7, 2024.
