Joint force rescues 28 women, children from traffickers in Teknaf

DHAKA, Nov 25, 2025 (BSS) – A joint team of Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) and police rescued 28 people, including women and children, while being trafficked to Malaysia by sea at Baharchara area of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

BCG Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said the joint drive by BCG and local police, being informed, rescued the people from the beach area adjacent to Kachhpiya Ghat in Baharchara while they were being trafficked to Malaysia by the sea at about 1am today, according to a BCG release.

He said during interrogation of the rescued persons, it was revealed that some organized gangs were planning to send Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens from different parts of the country, including Teknaf by sea to Malaysia through alluring them a better life and high-paying jobs abroad.

However, none could be arrested from the spot as the traffickers managed to flee the scene, the BCG official said.

The BCG along with other forces, he said, will continue drive against human trafficking and other criminal activities, the BCG release added.
