DHAKA, Nov 27, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today said they seized smuggled goods including drugs worth over Taka 710.81 crore during a series of drives in northeastern part of the country in the past 11 months.

“During the drives (from January 1 to November 25) we seized drugs worth Taka 43.58 crore and 330 accused (drug peddlers) alone under BGB’s Sarail-based region,” BGB’s Mymensingh sector commander Colonel Sarkar Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman told a press conference at his office.

He said the BGB’s Sarail region is composed of four sectors covering an area of 1,204 kilometres in Mymensingh, Sylhet, Srimangal and Cumilla.

Rahman said the border guards simultaneously enforced a sharp vigil against intrusions or “push-ins” as part of their duty to protect the frontiers using drones, night vision devices and digital surveillances.

He said the paramilitary sectors under the Sarail region were also taking actions against illegal extraction of sands and stones and during the nearly 11 months they seized 975,756 cubic feet of sands and 491,842 cubic feet of stones.

The BGB official said the vigilance against illegal extractions also yielded seizure of 27 trucks, 75 trolleys, 45 tractors, 18 lorries and 40 boats and destructions of equipment used in such illegal activity.

In 2024, BGB seized smuggled goods worth Taka 754.15 crore in drives under the region.
