DHAKA, Nov 28, 2025 (BSS) - The Cyber Police Centre (CPC) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has detained two individuals on charges of embezzling Taka 1.30 crore in the name of facilitating a land purchase in Sreepur, Gazipur.

"Md Shahin Kazi, 44, and Md Sayedul Islam, 41, were arrested from the Bosila Road area under Mohammadpur Police Station last night," a CID press release said here today.

According to the preliminary investigation, the CID said the accused gained the victim's trust by establishing familiarity over land-related matters. They then claimed they could sell 22 bighas of land in the Sreepur area and lured the victim into making an advance payment for the purchase.

Using excuses such as preparing documents, contacting the land office, and arranging for registration, they collected a total of Taka 1.30 crore from the victim in several instalments between April 6 and May 25, 2025.

They later informed the victim that the land would be registered on May 26. However, on that morning, the victim found all their phones switched off, leading him to realise that he had been deceived.

After the incident, the victim filed a case with Darussalam Police Station. After taking over the investigation, CID examined bank transactions, analysed information using modern technology, and, based on the victim's statement, arrested the two accused.

During the arrest, CID seized four mobile phones, four SIM cards, a private car, and Taka 46,500 in cash from their possession.

CID's investigation found that although the accused had taken money on the pretext of executing an advance agreement, the land in question did not belong to them.
