NASSA Group chairman remanded in uprising killing case

DHAKA, Dec 08, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today placed NASSA Group chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of one Kamal Hossain alias Sabuj during the July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order as police produced Nazrul, also the former chairman of Exim Bank, before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case. 

Nazrul Islam Mazumder was arrested from his Gulshan house on October 1, 2024, and is in jail since then.

According to the case documents, Sabuj, 40, joined anti-discrimination student movement rally in Shahjadpur Batar Goli under Gulshan Police Station in the morning of July 19, 2024. 

The rally came under attack at 12.30 pm and Sabuj got shot. He died on the spot.

The case was filed with the Gulshan Police Station on July 7, 2025.
