5 prisoners with minor offenses to be released on Victory Day

DHAKA, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS) – On the occasion of Victory Day 2025, the government has decided to remit the remaining sentences of five prisoners jailed for minor offenses and has ordered their release.

Md Jannat-ul Forhad, Assistant Inspector General (Media & Development) of the Bangladesh Prisons Directorate, confirmed the matter to BSS today.

He said a decision has been taken to release them on humanitarian grounds ahead of the great Victory Day.

Among the five prisoners, there is also one female inmate, he said, adding that the five convicts, jailed for minor offenses in the Dhaka, Narayanganj, Barishal and Chattogram prisons, have already received release orders.

He said the release will be carried out as soon as the orders reach the respective prisons.
