Ctg Mayor calls for pay revenue to govt for self-reliant economy

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS)- Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) 
Dr. Shahadat Hossain today called upon all to contribute in achieving a self-
reliant economy and accelerating the uplift work by paying due revenue to the 
government. 

Mayor made the call while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar to mark 
the VAT Day and VAT Week-2025 at a city hotel this morning.
 
Commissioner of Ctg Customs Bond Commissionerate Md Mahfuzul Haque Bhuiyan 
delivered the welcome address at the discussion meeting held with 
Commissioner of the Ctg Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Shawkat Ali 
Sadi in the chair. 

Director General (DG) of Customs, Excise and VAT Training Academy Dr Abu Nur 
Rashed Ahmed presented a keynote paper at the seminar. 

City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said the VAT system was introduced first in 
the country following a prudent decision of the 1991 BNP government under the 
Premiership of Begum Khaleda Zia and leadership of late Finance Minister 
Saifur Rahman.
 
"Country's economy has achieved a strong footing following the introduction 
of VAT and proved after three decades that it has been one of the basic 
pillas of the economy," Dr. Shahadat continued.
 
He said besides giving the economy a sound health, VAT has become a prime 
source of public development expenditure.
 
President of Customs, Excise and VAT Appeal Tribunal Md Lutfar Rahman, 
Commissioner of Tax Zone-1 Md Abul Kalam Azad, Customs, Excise and VAT Appeal 
Commissioner Md Fazlul Haque and Commissioner of Ctg Customs House Md Shafi 
Uddin spoke at the seminar as special guests.
