DHAKA, Dec 23, 2025 (BSS) - Professor AKM Nazrul Islam, a former teacher of the Department of Botany at Dhaka University (DU), passed away in the early hours of today while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital.

He was 77.

Professor Nazrul Islam is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the Jama-e-Mosque of Sector-10 in Uttara of the city.

The second janaza of the late Professor Nazrul Islam will be held at Muktagacha in Mymensingh after Asr prayers. 

He will be laid to rest at his family graveyard thereafter.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Professor Nazrul Islam.

In a condolence message, the DU Vice-Chancellor prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
