Dhaka court orders ballistic examination of Hadi murder

DHAKA, Dec 24, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered ballistic examination of fire cartridges and bullet-like objects recovered from the scene of the shooting that killed Inqilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid issued the order today after an application was filed by the investigation officer. 

The court directed the Special Police Superintendent of the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) of Ballistics Branch to examine the seized evidence and submit a detailed opinion in the interest of proper investigation.

According to the case application, Sharif Osman Hadi, also known as Osman Gani (33), was shot by miscreants in front of DR Tower adjacent to Bijoy Nagar Box Culvert Road under Paltan Police Station area at around 2:20 pm on December 12. 

He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital as his condition worsened. Due to his critical state, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on December 15 and admitted to Singapore General Hospital, where he died on December 18 while undergoing treatment.

His body was brought back to Bangladesh by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, and an autopsy was conducted on December 20. 

During the investigation, police seized fire cartridges and bullet-like objects from the scene of the incident.

Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Manch, filed a case of attempted murder with Paltan Police Station on December 14. 

The case initially included charges under sections 120(B), 326, 307, 109, and 34 of the Penal Code. After Sharif Osman Hadi’s death, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad ordered to add  section 302 (murder) to the case on December 20.

The complaint states that after Friday juma prayers on December 12, Sharif Osman Hadi was heading from Motijheel Mosque towards Suhrawardy Udyan when he was followed by Faisal Karim Masud, Rahul Daud and another unidentified accomplice riding a motorcycle. 

The assailants allegedly shot him and fled the scene.

The court-ordered that ballistic examination is expected to play a crucial role in identifying the weapon used and strengthening the investigation into the killing.
