
RANGPUR, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested five leaders and activists of banned Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies from the metropolis and Taraganj upazila in the district during the last 24 hours.
There are multiple cases against them on charges of assault, obstruction and attempted to murder during the anti-discrimination movement.
The Rangpur Metropolitan Police Media Wing and Rangpur district police have confirmed the matter.
The arrested persons are president of Haragachh Municipality Matsyajibi League in Rangpur city Zakirul Hasan Sohel, 41, organizing secretary of Ward No. 2 Awami League Ahedul Islam, 45, AL member Sekendar Ali Khan Subha, 52, and Rangpur Model College Chhatra League organizing secretary Ihsan Kabir Emon, 20, and Taraganj upazila Chhatra League leader Arifuzzaman Rakib, 22.
After due legal process, police produced the arrestees before the separate courts from where they were sent to jail.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali told local reporters that the 'Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2' is being conducted to maintain the law and order situation.
In continuation of this, active members of the affiliated organizations of the banned Awami League have been arrested in the cases filed after the anti-discrimination student movement.
“Rangpur Metropolitan Police is always committed to protecting the lives and property of the people and their safety,” he said.
