DHAKA, Jan 8, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today said the party uphold the martyrs of the mass uprising and must promote that spirit.
He said, "BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will visit North Bengal to pay homage to the martyrs. There is no room for violating the electoral code of conduct during his tour... Visiting the graves of the martyrs is the nation's expectation."
Salahuddin made the remarks while talking to journalists in front of the political office of the BNP Chairperson in the city’s Gulshan area.
He said, "As the top leader of the country's largest political party at the national level, Tarique Rahman will visit the graves of the martyrs and pay tribute by laying wreaths. This will be the true example of upholding the uprising."
Regarding the final nominations for BNP in the upcoming election, he said, "A large political party like BNP has many expecting candidates. They sought nominations according to their expectations, but for the sake of the greater interest and seat adjustments, we had to deprive many deserving candidates. They have grievances.”
As a result, he said some are contesting as rebel candidates. “Therefore, we have taken organizational measures in some cases regarding this and in other cases; we are trying to calm them down through persuasion. I hope there would be a resolution."
Regarding other political parties' complaints about the level playing field in the election, he said, "If anyone has any complaint about the level playing field, they can inform the Election Commission."
Referring to the killing of former member secretary of Dhaka Mohanagar Swacchasebak Dal, Azizur Rahman Musabbi in the capital, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "Fallen fascist forces are deteriorating the law and order situation to hinder the country's democratic journey”.
However, he said these isolated incidents will not impact the election. “All political parties are committed to the election, and ultimately the election will be held successfully," he added.
