DB arrests 3 Chinese nationals with 363 iPhones, liquor in city

DHAKA, Jan 08, 2026 (BSS) – Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested three Chinese nationals with 363 iPhones, foreign-made liquor and cash from Uttara and Khilkhet areas in the city.

Deputy Commissioner (media and public relations division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that the arrestees are Tan Jian, Wu Jun and Dong Hongwei.

He issued a press release here today saying a DB Mirpur Division acting on a tip-off conducted a raid at a house located at sector 13 under Uttara Paschim Police Station at about 3:30 pm yesterday and arrested Chinese citizen Tan Jian along with 58 iPhones.

According to the release, the police team also arrested Wu Jun and Dong Hongwei and seized 305 more iPhones from their possessions at about 5:30 pm.

Spare parts of iPhone, Tk.26,000 in cash and eight bottles of foreign liquor were also seized.

Initial interrogation found that they brought spare parts of expensive brand of mobile phones to Bangladesh in various ways and sold those to local retailers.

Apart from this, some local dishonest mobile phone traders were also involved with the gang, police said. 
Legal action is underway against the arrested people.
