Preparations afoot for Tarique Rahman’s Khulna visit

KHULNA, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) – As part of countrywide election campaign, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to visit Khulna Tomorrow after a gap of nearly 22 years. 

The announcement of his arrival has created a festive atmosphere among BNP leaders and activists at all levels across the city and surrounding districts.

Local BNP leaders and activists are working from dawn to dusk to ensure the success of the visit and the rally scheduled to be held at the Probhati School ground in Khalishpur at 11.00 am on Monday, setting a target of drawing at least 15 lakh people.

Apart from central and local leaders, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will address the rally as the chief guest.

The party aims to turn the programme into the largest electoral rally in the southern region with the participation of a huge number of leaders and activists from Khulna metropolitan area, district units and neighbouring districts.

To ensure the success of the rally, six sub-committees have been formed, including coordination, accommodation, discipline, media and publicity. 

Construction of the main stage is currently underway, while a modern sound system has been brought from Dhaka. 

A series of preparatory meetings are being held at party offices focusing on field security, discipline, media management and publicity activities. Miking campaigns have already started across the city and district.

Khulna City BNP President Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona said Tarique Rahman’s visit to Khulna is not merely an electoral programme, but a moment to restore courage, confidence and morale among party leaders and activists.

“For those who have remained engaged in long years of movement and struggle, this visit will serve as a new source of inspiration. Seeing our beloved leader in his home city after 22 years is a matter of emotion, pride and honour for us,” he said.

City BNP General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin said Khulna has historically been a strong base of BNP. 

He noted that Tarique Rahman’s visit ahead of the national election will play a significant role in the party’s political strategy. 
 “We expect around 15 lakh people, including party workers and supporters, to attend the Probhati School rally,” he said.

 “This rally will be a milestone in showcasing BNP’s organisational strength in the southern region and restoring voters’ confidence,” he added.

A high level of excitement and enthusiasm is being observed among leaders, activists and supporters at all tiers of the BNP and its various front organisations over the maiden visit of Tarique Rahman since assuming office as party chairman.

Under the initiatives of BNP units of Khulna city and south districts, various front organizations -- including Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, Sramik Dal, Mohila Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal and Krishak Dal--have taken extensive preparations to make the 
visit and the grand rally a success.

Tarique Rahman last visited Khulna in 2004 when he attended a view exchange meeting with the Grassroots level BNP leaders and activists at  the Zia Hall Auditorium in the city.

Former BNP city president and Khulna-2 BNP nominated candidate Nazrul Islam Manju, said that all-out preparations centring the upcoming rally at the Probhati School Maidan are going on smoothly.

BNP candidates in Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira have mobilised their full organisational strength to bring a huge number of people from their respective areas to the Probhati School gathering, party insiders said. 

It may be mentioned that from this rally, BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is scheduled to formally introduce BNP candidates for 14 parliamentary constituencies in Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira districts.
