DHAKA, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member and party candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Mirza Abbas today said votes cannot be won by spreading slander, creating confusion and deceiving people.
He said, “Some parties have assumed for certain that they will pass. The people want to know, where do they get this confidence from?”
Abbas made the remarks in response to questions from journalists during a public gathering at Khilgaon Bazar in the city.
In the afternoon, he held courtyard meetings near Outer Circular Road, Rajarbagh Globe Residence, and Navana Building.
When asked about the election environment, Mirza Abbas said, “The environment is not good. Because, the code of conduct states that no one should make offensive or provocative statements against others. But that is happening here. And I am the target. They are not targeting anyone else. Those who are spreading falsehoods will have to answer for it in this life and the hereafter.”
He mentioned that it is the Election Commission's responsibility to pay attention to these matters. Alleging that the Election Commission is being partial, Abbas said, “otherwise why aren't they taking any action despite so much defamation and falsehood? Complaints have been filed. No heed is being paid.”
In response to another question, he said, “Out of the 2.80 lakh voters in my constituency, half of the voters are either not there or cannot be found. Who are these voters? If these voters cannot be found, then I will ask the Election Commission to cancel these votes. Otherwise, the true result will not emerge.”
“I do not wish to repeat the obscene and filthy comments made by a top leader of an anti-liberation party regarding working women. Nowhere in our religion does it say that women cannot work. Rather, women have been given equal rights. I strongly condemn this statement. At the same time, I urge the women of society to keep an eye on such parties,” he added.
