Akhter utters stern warning against harassment, attack on women

DHAKA, Feb 1, 2026 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen today issued stern warning against any attacks on women in his constituency, Rangpur-4.

"Those who harass women would be punished severely," Akhter said during election campaign in Rangpur.

He also addressed the ongoing struggles of the people, particularly in terms of corruption and governance. 

"For years, the people of Bangladesh have suffered from oppression and state conspiracies," he said. 

Akhter reaffirmed NCP's coalition with the Jamaat-e-Islami-led election alliance aims to create a Bangladesh free of corruption and improve public services, including a plan to introduce mobile medical centers for pregnant women and display income-expense records in Kawnia Haragacha.

Reiterating his commitment to solving long-standing regional issues, particularly in northern region, he said, "We will solve the Tista River project and end the disproportional budget allocation in the northern region, if elected."

He noted that the people of northern region have been victims of neglect. "We will work to ensure fair development for all," he added, expressing determination to mitigate the gaps created over the decade. 

He promised to dismantle the 'wealthy syndicates' controlling the area, if elected.

Addressing the election campaing, NCP Election Committee Chairman Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said the party will ensure justice for various past massacres, including the Shapla Square killings and others, if elected. 

"We will make sure that those, who have been involved in the killings of people like Felani and others, are not given a chance to return to power. We will stand against any form of fascism and oppression," he said.

NCP's leaders urged the public to vote in favor of the "Yes" in the referendum, stressing that doing so would ensure a better future for the people of Bangladesh, particularly in ending corruption, establishing better governance, and providing fair representation for all citizens.
