Mirza Abbas calls for resisting plot centering polls

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Mirza Abbas today said the right to vote has been regained through 17-year struggle and any attempt to manipulate it will be resisted.

Speaking at a rally in front of Pirjangi Mazar, the Dhaka-8 candidate urged voters to safeguard polling centers. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman attended the rally as the chief guest.

At the beginning of his speech, Mirza Abbas, also BNP standing committee member greeted Tarique Rahman.  He then said the people of the country are eagerly waiting to exercise their rights of franchise. 

However, he alleged that some quarters are hatching plots to influence the results through election engineering in some constituencies of the country, including Dhaka.

Calling upon all to remain vigilant in this regard, he said that if anyone tries to create chaos at the polling station, they will not be spared.

Highlighting various problems in the area, Mirza Abbas said there are problems of gas, water and water logging in Dhaka-8 area and these problems need a permanent solution. 

Noting that there is no playground in the area, he said Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman once arranged a field and community centre there, but it could not be maintained due to conspiracy.

He also said government facilities have been constructed by occupying the graveyard space in the area. 

He demanded the recovery of the graveyard space and the field. 

Mirza Abbas also highlighted the safety of women and children, transportation facilities and lack of water supply.

Highlighting the necessity for creating employment opportunities for youths, he said unemployment will be eliminated through innovative ideas, if BNP comes to power.

He said conspiracies are being made to stop BNP from winning the polls, all will have to be united and guard the polling centres. 

The BNP leader expressed hope that BNP will win most of the seats across the country, including Dhaka-8.
