CHATTOGRAM, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS)- Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has announced a ban on the movement of certain vehicles in the Chattogram city area during the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election and referendum.
The ban, which will be in effect for a specific period, was detailed in a public notice issued by CMP headquarters and signed by CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz on Sunday (February 9).
According to the notice, the Election Commission Secretariat's instructions prompted the ban to ensure a fair, free, impartial, and peaceful election on February 12. The ban will restrict the movement of taxi cabs/cars, pickups, microbuses, and trucks in the constituency areas of the metropolis from 12 midnight on February 11 to 12 midnight on February 12.
The notice reads as follows:
A ban has been imposed on motorcycle movement from 12 midnight on February 10 to 12 midnight on February 13, with some exceptions. Law enforcement, armed forces, administration, and permitted observers' vehicles are allowed to move.
Exceptions include vehicles for emergency services, transporting medicines, medical supplies, and newspapers. Vehicles going to and from the airport with tickets or proof, long-distance passengers, and inter-district travel are also exempted.
Subject to approval by the Returning Officer and the display of stickers, a rival candidate and their election agent may use one small-sized vehicle.
Journalists, observers, and emergency workers' vehicles and motorcycles may also be permitted to operate if approved by the Election Commission or Returning Officer. Furthermore, vehicles of officials, employees involved in election duties, BTRC, and licensed telecommunications companies are exempt from the ban.
