
DHAKA, Feb 17, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested 12 members of a honey-trap gang, including two women, from the city’s various places.
The arrested are Tulia Akhter alias Sumi, 20, Dulali alias Meem, 20, Md Omar Faruk, 32, Md Shafiqul Islam Shanto, 38, Md Sajal Talukder, 38, Yeasin, 43, Md Nasir Khan, 46, Saddam, 34, Mehedi Hasan Shahria, 30, Azizul Hakim Tutul, 32, Md Kamrul Islam, 38, and Md Rabbi, 25.
Police said that members of the gang kidnapped two people from Sayedabad Janapada intersection area and took them to a house in Matuail area on January 11.
The kidnappers also took objectionable photos of the abducted people with two women and demanded a ransom amounting Taka 10 lakh and threatened to spread the photos on social media if the ransom amount is not paid, said DMP’s media and public relations division deputy commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
In another incident, a woman brought a man to her house following interaction on social media. As soon as the man entered the house, a gang numbering seven people beat him demanding Tk 8 lakh.
“Then the victim gave Taka 48,500 in cash with two gold rings weighing 1 bhori. The victim also gave Taka 446,500 them through bKash,” police said.
Two separate cases were filed in those connections with Demra and Jatrabari police stations.
Based on the complaint, investigation of two separate incidents revealed that the arrested persons are members of the same gang.
With the help of intelligence information and technology, separate teams from Jatrabari and Demra police stations jointly conducted raids at different places on February 15 and 16 and arrested 12 members.
The arrest of other members of this gang and legal action against the arrestees are underway.
