DHAKA, Feb 20, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sent former Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman, to jail in a case filed over the alleged assault of his 11-year-old housemaid.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Alberuni Mir passed the order in the afternoon. Another accused, housemaid Sufia Begum, recorded her confessional statement under section 164 and was also sent back to jail.

Earlier, on February 10, a Dhaka court placed Shafiqur on a five-day remand, his wife Bithi on a seven-day remand, and housemaids Rupali Khatun and Sufia Begum on five- and six-day remands respectively.

The four were first sent to jail on February 2 after being arrested from their Uttara Sector-9 residence.

According to case documents, the child had been working at the household since June 2025. On January 31, 2026, the accused handed her over to her father, who noticed bruises and severe burn injuries on her body. She was immediately admitted to hospital.

The victim's father filed the case with Uttara West Police Station on February 1.
