CHATTOGRAM, Feb 21, 2026 (BSS) - Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, State Minister for the Ministry of Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs, announced plans to develop the Chattogram Hill Tracts into a premier ecotourism hub, emphasizing the participation of all stakeholders in the process.
He outlined a five-year vision to bring substantial improvements in communication, healthcare, education, and infrastructure in the region, describing the Hill Tracts as a vital and sensitive area with abundant natural resources and scenic beauty.
The State Minister made the remarks during an introductory and coordination meeting with officials from various government departments in Hathazari Upazila on Saturday. Earlier, he attended the Amar Ekushey program organized by the Upazila BNP.
Mir Helal stressed a zero-tolerance policy toward crime and encroachment in Hathazari, assuring that offenders would face strict legal action without leniency.
As Member of Parliament for Chattogram-5 (Hathazari-Bayezid Bostami), he said rapid legal measures would be taken to reclaim government land and canals from encroachment, underlining that restoring canals would directly benefit local farmers.
He also mentioned plans to reduce traffic congestion in coordination with administrative and law enforcement agencies, encouraging volunteer participation in traffic management.
He pledged to serve as a guardian of Hathazari's 500,000 residents, working for all, regardless of political affiliation or opinion.
He emphasized that development initiatives would be free from political bias. Highlighting the presence of 17 government offices and 27 other offices in Hathazari, he called for collaborative efforts to address local issues efficiently.
The State Minister also discussed plans to extend family card benefits to four crore families across the country, ensuring fair access without discrimination based on politics, religion, ethnicity, or social class. Families will be categorized into four groups-extremely poor, poor, lower middle class, and active-starting with Hathazari.
Mir Helal reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Hathazari, citing his deep roots in the community and his dedication to continued public service.
